Gregory May, P.E.

GREGORY MAY, P.E. Principal
Greg May is a Principal at Jansen Land Consulting (JLC). His areas of expertise include civil engineering, construction management and project management. He currently manages a variety of consultants and contractors on a number of different land development projects in the metro D.C. area. In addition to the engineering, entitlement and construction aspects of land development, May also has extensive experience in conducting feasibility studies on prospective properties and creating and administering land development budgets for development projects. He has experience in many of the jurisdictions in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.

Prior to joining JLC in 2010, May served as Director of Land Entitlement at KB Home where he served as Project Manager for the Crown Farm Planned Urban Development in Gaithersburg, MD. He was responsible for managing a large team of consultants to prepare Schematic Development Plans, Final Site Plans and all associated engineering plans required to facilitate construction of the entire community. He acted as the primary point of contact with the City of Gaithersburg and together with the consultant team managed the approvals of all such plans. May also lead the General Contracting team toward bidding all plans and was the lead individual for preparing the comprehensive development budget for the Crown Farm.

From 2002 to 2006 May was employed by Pulte Homes as their Director of Engineering, where he managed a variety of consultants through the processes of engineering and entitling new residential communities throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

Prior to 2002, May worked for a number of engineering, development and contracting firms, most notably with Mobil Land Development Corporation in Reston, Virginia acting as one of their primary Land Development Project Managers.

May holds a Masters Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Virginia Tech and is a registered Professional Engineer in the commonwealth of Virginia. He currently resides in Takoma Park, Maryland.

 

Robert Jansen, P.E.

ROBERT JANSEN, P.E. President Emeritus
Robert Jansen established Jansen Land Consulting in 2008 in Falls Church, Virginia. The firm provides consulting management services in the areas of land acquisition due diligence, land entitlement, land development, and bond release for communities throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

In 1996, Jansen joined Pulte Homes as Director of Land Development and then in 2005 he was named Vice President of Land Development at KB Home. During this time, Jansen oversaw all development operations from entitlement to project close out. In fact, Jansen played a major role in developing some of the largest Planned Urban Developments (PUDs) in the Washington Metropolitan area including Laurel Hill and Faircrest in Northern Virginia, and Fallsgrove and the Crown Farm in Montgomery County, Maryland. He is one of the first homebuilders to establish collaboration between multiple consulting and general contracting firms to expedite successful project entitlement and development.

Prior to 1996, Jansen spent several years with locally owned home building companies and he also worked with Dewberry, a civil engineering consulting firm headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia.

Jansen holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and is a registered Professional Engineer. He has served on the Virginia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Board (past Chair) and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Land Development Design Initiative as a Life Member. Jansen’s passion for philanthropic endeavors extends to his Professional Membership in Engineers without Borders-USA and his mentoring of the student chapter of Engineers without Borders-Virginia Tech. He serves as Secretary for the Rotary Club of McLean, Virginia and is Chair of the Rotary District 7610 Strategic Water Alliance. He’s traveled to Zambia, Africa several times with the Alliance which mission is to bring clean water and sanitation education and facilities to rural and semi-urban schools and their communities. Jansen is a member of the Saint Peter Claver Society within the Saint John the Beloved Catholic Parrish in McLean, Virginia. The Society also supports projects in Zambia including a children’s orphanage, the technical vocation school and a rural agricultural skills center.

Jansen resides in Falls Church, Virginia with Anne, his wife of 34 years, and enjoys get togethers with their adult son Michael who resides in Boston.

Jason Sheer

JASON SHEER Principal
Jason Sheer, Principal at Jansen Land Consulting (JLC), is a land development professional credited with developing numerous communities throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan area. His overall responsibilities include coordinating and managing land development feasibility studies, the land use entitlement process, engineering design, budgeting, and infrastructure development through bond release for various projects.

A veteran of the homebuilding industry, Sheer began his career focused exclusively on vertical construction before transitioning to land development. Prior to joining JLC in 2010, Sheer spent eight years with Mid-Atlantic Builders where he served in a number of capacities, including Estimating Manager, Customer Care Manager and Land Development Project Manager. In his role as Land Development Manager, Sheer’s responsibilities included managing a team of professionals through every aspect of land development from feasibility study through the sale of finished lots.

Prior to joining Mid-Atlantic Builders in 2002, Sheer spent several years mastering the home building process. He began his career with Domain Builders, a K. Hovnanian Company, as a Project Manager focused on building townhome and multi-family units. He was then promoted to Purchasing Manager where he was responsible for budgeting and buyout of single family and townhomes.

Sheer holds a Bachelors Degree in Communication with a minor in Business and a concentration in Architecture from Arizona State University. Sheer serves on the Montgomery County Forest Conservation Advisory Committee as well as the Board of Governors and House and Grounds Committee for a large non-profit in Montgomery County. He has previously served on the Prince George’s County Liaison and Dry Utility Committees for the Maryland National Capital Building Association (MNCBIA). In addition, Sheer has been recognized by MNCBIA with Pro’s Awards for his work as Customer Care Manager and Land Development Project Manager. Sheer enjoys giving back to his community when possible and has spent time with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County as well as the Montgomery County chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Sheer resides in Potomac, MD with his wife Cheryl and their daughters Carly and Devin.
